Raymond Chukwuezugo Mgbeokwere

Raymond Chukwuezugo Mgbeokwere is a seasoned Corporate and Commercial Legal Practitioner. With over thirty years outstanding in-house counsel career, he retired as the General Counsel, First Bank of Nigeria Limited & its Subsidiaries after serving for over thirteen years in that capacity.

Prior to joining the FirstBank in 2011, he was the General Counsel/Corporate Secretary & Head, Corporate Services of Kakawa Discount House Limited (now FBN Quest Merchant Bank Limited). He had also served as the General Counsel/Corporate Secretary and Head, Public Affairs of the now defunct TriumphBank Plc. Raymond had a stint with private practice before joining Nigeria International Bank Limited (now Citibank Nigeria Limited) in 1993.

Raymond has handled a vast range of successful dispute resolution mandates, corporate finance, market development and unique local and cross-border transactions. He is a leadership enthusiast and consistently uses his in-depth knowledge of corporate governance and private-public sector transactional strengths to resolve otherwise challenging scenarios. 

At different times, Raymond also served as Non-Executive Director of FBNBank Senegal, First Nominees Nigeria Limited, First Dependants Nigeria Limited and Kakawa Asset Management Limited.  Raymond was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991 and is also a member of the International Bar Association. He holds a Master’s Degree in Law and is an Alumnus of the Lagos Business School, Harvard Law School and other top rated global institutions.
